Overview
Matrix can take dictation in most of the places you type, so you can speak a note instead of writing it out. The dictation itself belongs to your computer, not to Matrix. Matrix shows you how to switch it on, in the field you are standing in.
Look for the small microphone help button beside a text field. Opening it shows the steps for your operating system, and the panel says it plainly: your computer types what you say into the selected field.
Find the Help Button
The button sits next to the field, and opens on hover, on focus, or on tap. If you use a screen reader, it is announced as How to use voice dictation in this field.
It appears beside many fields, though not every one. You will find it on things like:
- Search, including the global search box at the top of Matrix
- Opportunity Name, Notes for Client Contract, Rate Plan, Rate Access Code and Pseudo City Code on an opportunity
- Address search and Nearby Hotel
- Filters such as the assignee picker on a board
- Agent Neo, in the Ask a question box
If a field has no button, dictation may still work there. The button is help, not a switch, so the underlying feature is your computer's in every field.
Turn On Dictation: Windows
- Connect a microphone and click into the text field so the cursor is in it
- Press Windows + H, then speak when listening starts
- If needed, allow microphone access
- On Windows 11, check Settings, then Privacy & security, then Speech
The in-app panel links to Microsoft's own voice typing help if you need more.
Turn On Dictation: Mac
- Open System Settings, then Keyboard, then Dictation, and turn it on
- Click into the text field
- Press the microphone key or your Dictation shortcut on your keyboard, then speak
If the Panel Shows the Wrong Steps
The panel works out your operating system from your browser and tells you which one it picked, for example Mac steps detected from this browser. If that is wrong, or you are on a shared machine, click Change and pick Windows or Mac yourself.
FAQ
Is this a Matrix feature? Not exactly. The dictation is your computer's, and Matrix gives you the instructions where you need them. That is why the steps differ by operating system and why they send you into Windows or macOS settings.
Nothing happened when I pressed the shortcut. Check that the cursor is in the field first, that a microphone is connected, and that you allowed microphone access when your computer asked. On Windows 11, the Speech settings page is the place to confirm it.
Why does one field have the button and the next one does not? The help button is only placed on some fields. It is a pointer to your computer's feature, so a missing button is not the same as dictation being unavailable.
Can I dictate to Agent Neo? Yes. The Ask a question box carries the same help button.
