Rate Renewals: Clone, Don't Edit

Updated July 22, 2026

Overview

When an LNR or RFP comes up for its annual renewal, it is tempting to reopen last year's opportunity and change the dates. Do not. Clone it instead. This one habit protects your history and your reporting.

Why clone instead of edit

If you edit the dates on an existing opportunity, you overwrite last year's record and lose its history. Cloning creates a fresh opportunity for the new period while last year's stays intact, so you keep the full timeline of the relationship.

How to clone

Open the opportunity, click Actions, and choose Clone. The Actions menu also holds Rate Load Request, Generate Document, and Delete.

Clone opens a full Clone Opportunity form, pre-filled from the original. It is not a one-click copy: review the details, update them for the new period (dates, rate, room nights), then save.

⚠️ A clone stays at the same hotel. The Property field on the clone form offers only the property the original belongs to, so you cannot use Clone to move business to a different hotel. Create the opportunity at the other property instead.

Key takeaway

Renewals: clone, do not edit. You keep last year's history and start the new term clean. See also Cleaning Up Your Pipeline.
