How to Add a Signature Block for eSignatures

Overview

For a contract to be signed electronically, it needs a signature block, the area where the signer signs. In Matrix, signature blocks are part of the contract template, not something you add during the send step. You set them up once on the template, and every contract you generate from that template is ready for e-signature.

Signature blocks are configured on the template, when you upload it. They are not added during the Send for Signature process.

How to Add a Signature Block

  1. In your contract document (the Word file you will use as the template), include the signature block where the signer should sign
  2. Upload that document as a template (Templates > + New Template, then upload the DOCX). See Creating and Editing Contract Templates for the full template steps
  3. Set the Document Type to Contract and choose the Opportunity Type(s) the template applies to
  4. Save the template

Every contract generated from this template now includes the signature block, so it is ready to send for electronic signature.

Why This Matters

Because the signature block lives on the template, you only set it up once. Generating a contract for any opportunity automatically carries the signature block, so your team never has to add it per deal, and contracts are consistent every time.
