What Is the MDLA?
The Matrix Default Lead Assignee (MDLA) is the user who is automatically assigned all incoming leads for a given property. When Lead Agent captures a lead, or when a lead is manually created without an explicit assignee, it goes to the MDLA.
The MDLA also receives the new lead alert email each time a lead is created for their property.
The MDLA is set per property. In a multi-property subscription, each property can have a different MDLA.
How to Set or Update the MDLA
- Go to Properties in the left sidebar
- Select the property you want to configure
- Navigate to User Assignments
- Locate the Matrix Default Lead Assignee field
- Set it to the correct user for that property
- Save
Repeat for each property in your subscription.
Reassigning Leads
The MDLA is the starting point, not a permanent assignment. Leads can be reassigned to any other user in Matrix at any time.
- Admins or managers can reassign leads to the appropriate seller after they come in
- Team members can reassign leads to themselves if they see one that belongs to them
- The new assignee receives a new lead alert email automatically upon reassignment
Best Practices
Assign the MDLA before enabling Lead Agent. If the MDLA is not set and a lead comes in, the lead will still be created in Matrix, but it may not be assigned to anyone. Set the MDLA for every property before going live with Lead Agent.
Review MDLA assignments when staff changes. When a Director of Sales or lead handler leaves or changes roles, update the MDLA immediately to avoid incoming leads landing on an inactive user.
Use MDLA for the primary lead receiver, not everyone. The MDLA should be one person per property, typically the DOS or whoever is responsible for initial lead intake. Use reassignment in Matrix to distribute leads from there.
